What is Experience Harrisburg? Experience Harrisburg is our twist on an internship/job fair, designed for students and young professionals. We place successful businesses and organizations in local hot spots like restaurants or cultural venues around downtown Harrisburg, and then we lead you right to them. This is an excellent opportunity to network with professionals from the area while checking out a few great locations in the downtown.
Why should I go?
1) This is a unique opportunity for you to network with professionals, become comfortable in business situations and practice introducing yourself, even for those of you not planning on staying in the area after school.
2) You will find out about internship and job opportunities available to you. After last year's event, our survey reported that 97% of attendees left with significant job or internship leads.
3) You get to visit 9 different downtown venues for FREE! Last year, employers were stationed at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, the Susquehanna Art Museum, Haydn's on Pine, Carmella's Trattoria, Stock's on 2nd, the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District, Harrisburg University, Molly Brannigans and Commerce Bank.
4) We feed you all night! Several venues will be providing food, and we end the evening with free pizza!
5) At the end of the night we hand out some serious prizes! Last year's prizes included a brand new iPhone as well as a GPS navigation system!
When and where is it? The starting location will be at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts (upstairs) on 222 Market Street in downtown Harrisburg. The event will begin PROMPTLY at 5:30 with a breif introduction on how the night will work. Shortly thereafter, volunteers from the Harrisburg Young Professionals will split attendees into groups of about 30 and lead them to their first of 9 destinations. You'll want to attend the whole event to network with all 40 employers in addition to enjoying free pizza and HUGE prizes at our closing venue- Dragonfly Nightclub.
Which companies are going to be there? There will be about 40 companies attending this event, representing a wide-range of industry sectors. The most current list can be viewed by clicking the Companies button.
What should I bring? Do I need my resume? Resumes are required! You'll be moving from location to location, so you won't have time to talk in depth with the companies. This event is about introducing yourself and making connections. A resume is the perfect way to leave something with the company for them to look at and remember you. Don't forget that this will be their representation of you, so make it look good. If you need help writing a resume click here.
What do I wear? This is a business event, so formal business clothing is expected. What does that mean?
GUYS: wear a suit and tie. Also wear comfortable shoes you can walk and stand in for a few hours.
LADIES: you can wear either a suit or slacks with a nice blouse. AND WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES! You will be walking and standing for hours, and you don't want to be thinking about your feet when you're trying to make a good impression. Wear comfortable flats or low heels.
This is a walking event, so the more you bring with you, the more you'll have to carry throughout the night. We'll be handing out some goody bags, so you can put your resumes in there, no need for a large binder.
Where do I park? On street parking AFTER 5pm in Harrisburg is free. If you don't want to park on the street, there are parking garages throughout the downtown that cost $5 for the night AFTER 5pm.
